Teeth Repair Calgary: Options for Missing or Broken Teeth

Broken & Missing Teeth: Image of a girl biting her teeth for teeth repair Calgary services.Ashamed of your smile? Missing or broken teeth may cause more problems than just embarrassment. If your teeth are not intact, there could be changes in how the other teeth fit against each other. Your teeth may wear more quickly. You may also begin to experience headaches, jaw pain and even sleep disorders. It’s important to learn about what teeth repair options are out there.

The spaces between your teeth can create opportunities for food and bacteria to accumulate, potentially leading to gum disease or periodontal disease. Broken or chipped teeth may also fracture more easily. Missing or broken teeth can have consequences for your appearance and health.

What breaks teeth?

From our patients’ experiences,  it can be just about anything. A sports injury, biting down the wrong way on a fork, a hard candy, chewing on a bread crust (yes, a bread crust – we have found bread crusts break more teeth than any other cause), old dental treatments, new decay, or perhaps just clenching and grinding your teeth due to a misaligned bite.

There are 3 ways we can lose teeth

1. Decay

Teeth can be broken down by bacteria that erodes the tooth structure over time and at some point the tooth falls apart. Decay does not cause toothaches. You cannot feel decay. You can feel the consequences of decay when you get a dental abscess or an inflamed tooth pulp. That is usually long after the decay started.

2. Gum Disease

You can have a loss of the bony support of the roots of your teeth from what we call “periodontal disease”. Periodontal disease does not hurt in the beginning and it is not until you develop a more intense infection in the gum tissue or dental bone that you may become aware you have periodontal disease. Sometimes the only way you know you have periodontal disease is if your tooth becomes loose or falls out.

3. A Misaligned Bite

The first two mentioned ways of breaking or loosing your teeth are infections. But you can experience no infections or have a healthy mouth and still break or lose teeth. The way teeth meet together is what we call “occlusion.” Occlusion can be less than ideal and can cause the slow wear and tear of your teeth when the bite is misaligned. We call this a “malocclusion”.

During each dental check-up, we always assess whether your teeth are being damaged by tooth decay, gum diseases, and/or a malocclusion. Teeth also can be chipped anyway. We offer Chipped Tooth Repair Calgary repair services.

What are my options for broken tooth or missing teeth?

You may need a dental implant, a fixed dental bridge or a removable dental prosthesis to replace missing or broken tooth or teeth. You can go for a Calgary Broken Tooth Repair as one of the options of your broken teeth repair.

Dental Implant vs Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. These two anchoring teeth referred to as an abutement teeth and a false tooth or teeth called a pontic, are placed between the gap. For more information, read more about dental crowns and bridges.

A dental implant is an artificial root placed in the jaw bone that provides support for a dental crown. Dental implant crowns can look like natural teeth and provide a good option for missing or broken teeth. For more information, read more about dental implants.
